Here are pictures from our 36 hour long trip to Newport, RI. On a whim and a last minute Sat. night availability at the Francis Malbone House, we piled the bikes and our swimsuits in the car, and made the short 2+ hour trip to seafaring Newport. Upon arrival, we hopped on the bikes and toured Ocean Drive, which runs along the shorefront, with many stops to look at astounding large homes and parks, particularly the historic homes of the Vanderbilts, etc. Also made a stop at the beach to lay in the sun and dip our toes in the cold water. And we went for pure New England gourmet charm at Flo's Clam Shack for dinner and ended the night with a drink on the harbor and another in the garden of the inn. The highlight of our trip was a sailing venture with 2 kind and wacky middle-aged couples...they provided good entertainment for us. First time we've been sailing - liked it alot but decided we're probably too uncoordinated to ever give it a go ourselves....we'll stick to kayaks for now.
